Great reasons to travel in November
November can be a difficult month depending on where you live, in the northern hemisphere, November is often a very grey and mostly rainy month, so why not escape for a bit ?
Getting away in November is the perfect opportunity to soak in some desperatly needed vitamin c.
Here are just some of the reasons why travelling in November can ba a great time to travel :
N01 – Off-Peak Prices
High season for most tourist locations tends to be during holidays such as Christmas, easter, valentines, thanksgiving or in the summer.
If you check airline tickets or hotels during these periods prices are usually quite steep. Some websites will use different colors to indicate the different prices between high and low seasons (on most websites red tends to mean high season, yellow is in the middle and green is for low season – this can obviously vary depending on the website that you’re reading).
Late october to early november tends to be low season for most countries, since the demand for travel tends to be lower, you can often grab better deals on flights, accomodations, and tours during this period. This is a great opportunity since you might be more encline to do a few more activities since the prices are more affordable.
N02 – Potential unexpected upgrades
During low season chances are there are less guests who will be staying at your hotel or hostel, chances to get an upgraded room are definetly higher.
For example a few years ago we were staying at a hotel in Thaïlande on the island of Koh Yao Yai at the beggining of November. Right after the check-in, the hotel staff showed us our room, and we were blown away by the ocean view. After all, we had booked a tropical view, so I was suprised we had gotten a much better room. We asked the staff of the hotel, if we were maybe given the wrong room, and they said that since it was low season, they upgraded guests to better rooms when possible.
Traveling in November won’t guarantee you’ll get an upgrade, but you might be in for a treat and your chances are always better than during high season when all the rooms are fully booked.
N03 – A sunny get away
In the northern hemisphere November tends to be grey and rainy as stated previously. It’s often even considered as a depressing shoulder month. Most people won’t understand if you ask to take vacation leave in November but that’s where they are wrong.
In many places, November is a shoulder month, and many countries are transitionning from the heat of the summer to more enjoyable temperatures.
Other countries, are coming out of the rainy season, and while you might encounter a few showers here and there, you do often get beautiful sunny weather.
N04 – Lower Crowds
Since November falls outside of most peak travel seasons in many destinations, this leads to fewer tourists, which in turn leads to shorter lines at popular attractions, restaurants, bars, … Lower crowds often means that your travel experience will be more relaxed and peaceful.
N05 – Easier to get your holiday leave (usually)
Most employers favor young parents when planning the holiday leaves of their business. That means that if you don’t have any children, you can’t always get the dates you would like during summer or other holiday seasons.
November is the best compromise, less colleagues will probably ask for holiday leave during this period and your colleagues with children will probably focus on summer holidays and Christmas.
N06 – Fall Foliage
If you wan’t enjoy the fall colors, the month of November can offer stunning landscapes with vibrant foliage. Regions like North America, Europe, and certain parts of Asia have beautiful autumn colors.
N07 – Cultural Festivals and events
In the month of November, many destinations host festivals, and cultural events in November. For example the Día de los Muertos (Day of the dead) is celebrated between the 31st of October and the 2nd of November.
N08 – Wildlife viewing
November is also a great month for wildlife viewing in certain regions. For example, in Dominica whale watching is at it’s peak for Sperm whales from november to march.
N09 – Photography Opportunities
In the Nothern hemisphere the light tends to be softer and more diffused in November which can be ideal for photography, especially if you also have the beautiful autumn colors in the background shot.
N10 – Holiday preparations
If you’re traveling in the later part of November, you might get to experience early holiday preparations such as Christmas markets.
What about you have you ever tried taking a holiday in November ? Do you have any other good reasons to plan a trip during November ?
