Jump to Recipe

Guacamole is a popular Mexican dish made primarily from ripe avocados and other various ingredients. This recipe is known for it’s vibrant green color and creamy texture.

This recipe typically served as an apetizer or is added in different dishes such as fajitas.

Over the years, guacamole has become a staple in many kitchens and cuisines all over the world.

Origins of Guacamole

The origine of Guacamole can be traced back all the way to the Aztecs. It’s impossible to known the specific date of the creation of guacamole, however it has most likely been made for centuries.

The word Guacamole originates from the Nahuatl is the Aztec language. The word “āhuacamolli,” combiens “āhuacatl” which means avocado and “molli” which means sauce. Which in turn suggests that the Aztecs made a sauce or a dip using avocados.

Benefits of avocados

Avocados are nutrient-dense fruits that are packed with essential nutrients. Avocados are known to contain healthy fats and are a good source of dietary fiber.

Even though avocados offer numerous health benefits, they are calorie-dense due to their fat content.

As for any other food moderation is key, especially if you’re mindful of calorie intake.

Incorporating avocados as part of an overall balanced diet can potentially contribute to health and well-being.

Ingredients

This recipe doesn’t require many ingredients and all you will need is :

  • Avocado : Make sure that your avocados are ripe. This is the most important ingredient of this recipe, so it’s important to use quality avocados, after all avocados are the star of this dish.
  • Lime : Limes are important because they prevent the avocados from browning due to oxidation, and they add a tangy flavor. While limes are more commonly used for guacamole, you could alternatively also use lemons if you prefer.
  • Guacamole spices : You could buy store bought already prepared spices for guacamole or make your own. I tend to use the Old el Paso guacamole spices but that is a personnal preference. Alternatively if you would like to make your own you will need cilantro, and chili powder.
  • Salt
  • Pepper

These are lemons on the right side of the photo, I had used all my limes in the guacamole 🙂

STEP 1

Cut your avocados in half and take out the avocado seed. Scoop out all the avocado “flesh” and put in a bowl.

STEP 2

Squash your avocados in a puree with a fork or with a blender.

STEP 3

Add lime and guacamole spices to taste, mix well. That’s it!

Before serving you can chill your guacamole if you wish.
