In November 2022, we went to Akumal located in the Riviera Maya in Mexico. The Riviera Maya has a lot of different hotels to choose from but something just set the Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya hotel apart.

Honest review of the Hotel Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya
The Hotel Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya is a luxurious all-inclusive resort that offers guests a true taste of paradise.
The hotel is located on the beautiful Caribbean coast, along the beach of Akumal, this resort boasts stunning views, pristine beaches, and a wide range of amenities and activities to keep guests entertained and relaxed. Pros
N01 – Location
The Hotel Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya is located in the heart of the Riviera Maya, one of Mexico’s most popular tourist destinations. The resort is situated on a secluded stretch of beach and is surrounded by lush tropical gardens. The location is perfect for those looking for a peaceful and tranquil vacation, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The other thing to note is that the Hotel Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya is located in Akumal. Akumal is a very special place and is the Mayan word for the “Place of the Turtle”. It bears well it’s name and during your stay you’re almost guaranteed to see a sea turtle (it’s that amazing).
N02 – Accomodation
The resort offers a wide range of accommodations to suit every taste and budget. Guests can from a wide variety of rooms, all of which are beautifully decorated and equipped with modern amenities such as flat-screen TVs, mini-bars, and private balconies or terraces.
We stayed in the Junior Suit tropical view room and it was stunning. The room in itself is very big, the bathroom is stunning and had a round jacuzzi tub which was a very nice feature. Our minibar was filed everyday and snacks we’re provided on a daily basis.
N03 – Food and Beverages
The Hotel Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya offers an impressive array of dining options, including several restaurants and bars. Guests can enjoy delicious local and international cuisine, as well as an extensive selection of drinks and cocktails. The food is high quality and there are many options to choose from, ensuring that there is something for everyone.
The restaurants in the Hotel are the following :
- Bordeaux : which serves french cuisine, the restaurant has a romantic feel to it.
- El Patio : was our favorite restaurant. It serves Mexican cuisine. We really enjoyed the ambiance and the fact that the meals that we’re served we’re really authentic and absolutely delicious.
- Fondue forks
- Market Café : is a buffet which serves international food. It was a practical option but not our favorite. It’s also where breakfast is served.
- Oceana : serves seafood in an open air setting. It’s the perfect option on a tropical night, it’s located by the pool and their coconut shrimp are absolutely delicious!
- Portofino : serves italian cuisine.
- Himitsu : serves asian fusion cuisine, has a sushi bar and a teppanyaki ! The sushi and ramen we’re absolutely amazing.
- Coco café : is open 24h/24h (which blew my mind). They serve coffee, snacks and sandwiches.
You can also reserve romantic dinners on the beach at an extra cost.
Room service is included and you can order directly from a tablet in your room.
N04 – Activities and Entertainment
The resort offers a wide range of activities and entertainment to keep guests entertained during their stay.
These include water sports, tennis, fitness classes, and live music and performance. All activities are listed in the app, which I encourage you to download before your stay so that you can have an idea of what you can do once you arrive. We did the free turtle tour and the kayak tour, which we’re amazing. The entertainement staff really went above and beyond to make our stay extra special (special mention to Victor!).
There is also a spa and wellness center, where guests can relax and rejuvenate.
N05 – Service
The staff at the Hotel is dedicated to providing guests with the highest level of service. From the moment you arrive, you are greeted with a warm welcome and the staff is always on hand to assist you with anything you need.
Cons
N01 – Price
The Hotel is a luxurious resort, and as such, it is on the higher end of the price spectrum. While the resort offers excellent value for money, it may not be suitable for those on a tight budget.
N02 – Noise
The resort’s entertainment program can be quite loud, which can be a problem for those looking for a quiet and peaceful vacation.
Conclusion
